Make an impact by supporting students as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter within a vibrant educational community near Chesapeake, VA. This full-time, contract opportunity starts August 24, 2026, and runs through June 11, 2027. You'll be instrumental in fostering communication and inclusion, providing direct classroom support and interpretation for school events and meetings involving deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals.

What you'll need:

  • Valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification
  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language and experience interpreting within educational settings
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and families
  • Flexibility to work occasionally beyond traditional school hours for extracurricular activities
  • Professionalism and discretion in handling confidential student information

Major responsibilities:

  • Deliver in-person interpretation for students throughout the school day, supporting classroom instruction
  • Provide interpretation during meetings, including those involving parents or guardians who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Assist with communication access at extracurricular events as needed, which may involve extended hours
  • Work on-site at assigned campus(es); remote or hybrid assignments are not available
  • Engage as a proactive member of the school team, supporting an inclusive educational experience

You'll work 35 hours per week, primarily during school days, with specific campus assignments to be determined according to district needs. Caseloads may span multiple age groups, from elementary to high school.
