Sign Language USA, INC
Washington, DC, US Full Time
55USD - 70USD per hour

Job Description

Job Description

SLUSA is a full service language interpretation and translation agency headquartered in the Washington, DC metro region. We are continuously seeking qualified and certified ASL interpreters to provide service on-site in a variety of settings which typically include medical, educational, special event, and business. Candidates should reside in or around the DC region including northern Virginia and the entire state of Maryland.

SLUSA has a variety of ASL position types available which include

- Staff/salaried (These interpreters agree to an annual fixed salary and agree to a flexible schedule typically M-F during regular business hours and cover around 30 hours of interpreting per week)

- Hourly (these interpreters accept assignments as they come and agree to a fixed hourly rate)

- On-Call (these interpreters agree to a small fixed salary to be available after hours and weekends and must accept emergency requests that come in, they are then paid an hourly rate during the time of service).

Please note that every interpreter working with SLUSA is assigned to work. SLUSA does not accept interpreters looking to be on our "roster" in hopes of picking up work during slow Summer/Winter periods or as a back up agency. Each interpreter must go through an onboarding process which includes background check, illegal drug testing, and submitting a series of immunizations. Because of the time and expense, only interpreters that are actively willing to pick up work will be considered.

SLUSA's quality control standards include the following requirements;

- ASL interpreters must be certified (NAD/RID/NIC or BEI) OR be pre-certified with plans to become fully certified.

- ASL interpreters must have a minimum of 2 years documented and verified professional experience.

Interpreters that are not certified or pre-certified may be qualified to join SLUSA's mentorship or internship program to prepare for certification.

Interpreters that hold a VQAS or EIPA can be considered.

Hourly or salaried rate is determined by experience and certification status.
