Job Description
Step into a vital educational support role as a Sign Language Interpreter, providing dedicated 1:1 services to an elementary student within a dynamic school community. This is a full-time, school-based assignment spanning from now through May 28, 2027. The position focuses on supporting one student at Chaffee Elementary School during typical school hours (8:00 AM – 2:30 PM), amounting to 40 hours per week. Consistency and commitment to the student’s schedule are essential—modified or flexible daily schedules cannot be accommodated.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid Alabama SLI/Interpreter license or permit (required)
- Interpreting credentials strongly preferred (such as RID, EIPA, or BEI)
- Previous experience as a school-based interpreter welcomed
- Background in 1:1 student support preferred
- Reliable attendance history and strong work ethic
- Ability to engage collaboratively with educational teams and school staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation for one student throughout the school day
- Facilitate clear communication between the student, staff, and peers
- Support the student’s access to classroom instruction, school activities, and daily interactions
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to school policies
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to individualized educational strategies
