Job Description
Seeking passionate professionals skilled in sign language interpretation to support students within a dynamic and student-focused educational environment. This full-time, contract opportunity runs from August 25, 2026, through June 15, 2027, providing meaningful support to elementary-aged students in a 1:1 setting. Assignments will cover 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday. While the primary students are in the Virginia Beach area, schedules may vary based on coverage needs, allowing interpreters to maximize their impact throughout the region.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III required
- EIPA score of 3.5 preferred; candidates with a score above 3.0 will be considered
- Alternatively, a QAS score of 3 or better
- Prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings preferred
- Comfortable working 1:1 with elementary students
- Willingness to adapt and offer assistance at various locations if needed
- Visaphonics proficiency preferred, but not a requirement
Position Details:
- Fulfill interpreting needs for assigned elementary students, ensuring full access to classroom communication
- Provide flexible support by covering additional campuses as required if the primary student is absent
- Collaborate with educators and school staff to create inclusive learning environments
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards in all interactions
- Meet all required credentialing prior to the start date
