Put your sign language interpreting expertise to meaningful use by making a direct impact on students’ lives in a dynamic educational environment. Northern Virginia is seeking as-needed American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters for on-call, part-time contract opportunities. This role offers the flexibility of variable hours and multiple site experiences based on emerging needs throughout the academic year.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required
  • Completion of a VA Dept. of Social Services background check (must be initiated immediately)
  • Current TB test as required by state regulations
  • Likely need for VQAS Level III certification or a 3.5 EIPA score (final requirement pending district confirmation)
  • Previous experience in educational settings is highly valued
  • Strong communication skills, adaptability, and commitment to student-centered service

Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and effective sign language interpretation between staff, students, and families in various school contexts
  • Serve students of various age groups within the district as assignments arise
  • Work collaboratively with educators and support staff to foster accessible learning environments
  • Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and inclusivity at all times
  • Manage flexible schedules and diverse assignments based on district need
