Contribute your expertise in sign language interpreting by supporting students in a dynamic school environment. This contract opportunity is available for a skilled and certified Sign Language Interpreter dedicated to fostering communication access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Work closely with students and staff in a collaborative setting and help shape positive educational experiences.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter: Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing—BEI I or II (previous certification) or Basic (current system)
  • Experience working in school settings or with children preferred
  • Ability to interpret effectively in K-8 educational environments
  • Flexibility to adapt to individual student needs and classroom settings
  • Must complete district fingerprinting and background check requirements before start
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site sign language interpretation for students (PK–8) assigned to a single campus
  • Facilitate communication between students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and their peers, teachers, and staff
  • Support student participation in both academic and extra-curricular classroom activities
  • Collaborate with education professionals to address student-specific needs
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of interpreting
  • Comply with district and campus policies and guidelines
