Sign Language Interpreter in Gretna, LA

Make a meaningful impact working as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting high school students in the New Orleans area. This full-time contract position offers an excellent opportunity to collaborate with educators and students, enhancing access to curriculum for learners who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Assignments and caseload will be determined based on school needs.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• EIPA score of 4.0 (performance) and EIPA written, both required and must be listed on the Louisiana Interpreter Registry (LCDC Interpreter Registry - Dept. of Health)
• Alternatively, hold a current RID or NIC certification, with EIPA written still required
• Previous experience providing sign language interpretation in an educational setting, preferably with high school students
• Ability to collaborate with school staff and demonstrate professionalism in educational environments
• Completion of both district and agency credentialing, including fingerprints and drug screening

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide sign language interpretation for high school students ensuring communication access during all classroom activities, meetings, and school events
• Adapt interpreting techniques to fit student learning styles and evolving classroom needs
• Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, resource staff, and school administrators
• Maintain accurate, confidential records as required
• Participate in IEP meetings, team discussions, and professional development opportunities to further enhance service delivery
