Job Description
Exciting opportunities are available for skilled Sign Language Interpreters eager to make a meaningful impact in educational settings in the Virginia Beach area. This is a full-time, contract role beginning August 25, 2026, and running through June 15, 2027. Work closely in 1:1 settings primarily with elementary-aged students, providing essential support to ensure accessibility and inclusion throughout the school day.
What We’re Looking For:
- Current Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III required
- Strong preference for candidates with an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher; candidates with a score above 3.0 will be considered
- QAS Score of 3 or better also considered
- Experience working in educational settings, supporting students with hearing impairments
- Proficiency in Visaphonics is a plus, though not required
- Flexibility to move between school locations as needed to ensure consistent coverage
- Reliable, organized, and able to work both independently and collaboratively
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Deliver 1:1 sign language interpreting services, primarily for elementary students
- Adapt interpreting styles to meet individual student needs, utilizing preferred communication modes
- Support student participation in classroom activities, school programs, and peer interactions
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with educators and school professionals
- Travel between area schools as needed to provide coverage
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards in all assignments
