Job Description
Bring your expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter to support high school students in a vibrant educational environment near New Orleans, LA. This full-time, contract opportunity spans the school year, starting as soon as possible and extending through late May 2027. Collaborating with school staff, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring accessible communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, fostering inclusion and academic success.
Key Qualifications:
- Hold an EIPA score of 4.0 (performance and written), and listed on the Louisiana Interpreter Registry (LCDC Interpreter Registry - Dept. of Health)
- Alternatively, possess current RID or NIC certification, with the written component fulfilled and registry listing
- Previous experience working with high school-aged students preferred
- Demonstrated professionalism, strong communication skills, and adaptability in fast-paced settings
- Ability to complete required district credentialing steps (fingerprints, drug screening) promptly
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and campus activities for high school students, ensuring clear and effective communication
- Collaborate closely with educators and support staff to best meet students’ individual needs
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting assignments and student interactions as required
- Adapt interpreting style and methods to varied academic settings, including one-on-one, small group, or large classroom environments
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the overall support network for the students assigned
