Step into an impactful role where your expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter will support high school students in an educational setting. Based in the vibrant New Orleans area, this full-time, contract position offers the opportunity to be part of a supportive school environment for the 2026-2027 academic year, starting as soon as possible and running through May 27, 2027.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency as a Sign Language Interpreter with previous experience working in educational settings, particularly alongside high school-aged students
  • Active listing on the Louisiana Interpreter Registry (LCDC Interpreter Registry – Dept. of Health) with an EIPA score of 4.0 and written exam completion
  • RID and NIC certifications accepted, with written exam fulfillment required
  • Ability to complete both fingerprinting and drug screening for district credentialing requirements
  • Strong communication skills, flexibility, and dedication to fostering inclusive learning

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive sign language interpretation for high school students, supporting their participation in classroom activities and social interactions
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and other support professionals to ensure accessible educational experiences for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Adapt interpretation methods to best meet the needs and preferences of assigned students
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards according to school district and interpreter guidelines
  • Participate in team meetings, contribute to student support plans, and communicate progress to relevant stakeholders
