A fulfilling opportunity awaits for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter who is passionate about making a difference in students’ lives. For this contract assignment beginning as soon as possible and running through May 27, 2027, you’ll work full time (35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, following the school calendar) supporting high school students in a dynamic academic environment near Gretna, LA. The role may involve serving one or more schools, with your assigned caseload to be determined based on the specific needs of the district.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL), with prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in K-12 school settings strongly preferred
  • Must hold a current EIPA score of 4.0 (performance) and completed written EIPA exam, listed on the Louisiana Interpreter Registry (LCDC Interpreter Registry – Dept. of Health)
  • RID and NIC certifications are accepted, but must meet all written exam and registry requirements
  • Capable of working collaboratively with educators, staff, and students to facilitate learning
  • Able to complete fingerprinting and drug screening in line with district and agency credentialing protocols

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities for high school aged students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Adapt interpreting style as necessary to meet students’ varied learning needs and communication preferences
  • Support educators and collaborate on student progress and access
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and adhere to ethical standards at all times
