Job Description
Make a meaningful impact supporting high school students as a Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming academic year. This contracted, full-time opportunity is located near Kenner, LA, and runs from ASAP through late May 2027. You’ll work collaboratively with school staff and students, providing essential communication access in educational settings.
What we’re seeking:
- Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- EIPA score of 4.0 (including written), listed on the Louisiana Interpreter Registry (LCDC-Dept. of Health)
- RID or NIC certification also accepted, but written EIPA requirement remains
- Prior experience interpreting for high school-aged youth preferred
- Flexibility to work across campuses as assigned; caseload determined by student need
- Solid understanding of educational settings, confidentiality, and professional boundaries
- Ability to complete urgent credentialing steps, including fingerprinting and drug screening
What you’ll do:
- Deliver high-quality interpreting services between spoken English and ASL for high school students
- Support educational access during classes, school events, meetings, and extracurricular activities
- Foster effective communication and advocate for student engagement and inclusion
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and administrators to support student accommodations
- Maintain accurate records as necessary and observe all district policies
