Job Description

Make a lasting impact as a school-based Registered Nurse in a specialized part-time contract role. This position involves supporting a first-grade student who is Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing and uses sign language as the primary means of communication. The student requires oxygen as needed and has a tracheostomy, so prior experience with these medical needs is essential. The schedule is Monday through Wednesday from 6:30 AM to approximately 3:45/4:00 PM, and includes accompanying the student on their school bus commute.

Key Qualifications:

  • Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Previous experience in a school setting or pediatric nursing strongly preferred
  • Comfort and proficiency in sign language communication
  • Demonstrated experience caring for trach and oxygen-dependent individuals
  • Ability to provide attentive, compassionate care in classroom, bus, and home-to-school transition settings
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, educators, and families
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for students with complex medical needs

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to a young student with trach and oxygen requirements
  • Support the student’s verbal and communication skills, including sign language use
  • Accompany and monitor the student during school transportation to and from their regional deaf education program
  • Collaborate with educational and health professionals to support the student’s academic and medical needs
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure adherence to care protocols

Benefits of this opportunity include meaningful one-on-one interactions, a consistent part-time weekday schedule, and the chance to make a difference in a child’s educational experience.

If you have a passion for pediatric nursing, a strong background in sign language, and expertise working with medically complex children, we encourage you to apply today and bring your dedication to this impactful setting!
