Job Description
Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity providing specialized school nursing support for a 1st-grade student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH). This part-time position plays a crucial role in the student’s daily school experience, offering both medical expertise and compassionate care in a dynamic educational environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Current, active RN license
- Demonstrated experience with tracheostomy care and administering oxygen PRN
- School nursing background, ideally with elementary students
- Proficiency in sign language, or willingness to learn, is highly preferred given the student's communication needs
- Ability and willingness to ride the school bus with the student from Flower Mound to the regional school for the Deaf and back home daily
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with educational staff, families, and other professionals
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to the student during school hours and bus transportation, including trach and oxygen management
- Promote and support verbal skills development, using sign language as the primary communication mode with the student
- Monitor and promptly address health needs throughout the school day
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with school and healthcare policies
- Communicate proactively with staff and family to ensure seamless support and continuity of care
- Serve as a positive advocate for the student's well-being and educational success
