Make a difference every day as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting students from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. Qualifications & Skills:

  • Current certification as a Sign Language Interpreter: Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing BEI I or II (previous system), or Basic (current system)
  • Experience interpreting in educational settings strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language and familiarity with Deaf culture
  • Flexibility to support a caseload of students across grades PK-8
  • Willingness to complete the required district fingerprinting and background check before starting
  • Effective communication, professionalism, and adaptability

Your Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate clear and accurate communication between students, staff, and peers through American Sign Language
  • Support educational access in classroom instruction, school activities, and meetings as needed
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and special education professionals to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and ensure appropriate accommodations
  • Provide interpreting services at one campus, building rapport and continuity with assigned students
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all school and district policies and credentialing requirements
