Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Universal City, Texas

This contract position is perfect for a dedicated professional ready to collaborate in an educational environment, working primarily on-site with elementary and middle school students (Pre-K through 8th grade).

Key Qualifications:

• Valid certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (BEI I, BEI II under the previous system, or Basic under the current certification system)
• Experience as a sign language interpreter, preferably in a school setting
• Willingness to complete district-specific fingerprinting and background checks
• Ability to work collaboratively with educational staff to ensure effective communication access for students
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Flexibility to adjust interpretation style to meet individual student and classroom needs

Role Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality, on-site interpreting services for students in Pre-K through 8th grade
• Serve as a communication bridge among students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, peers, teachers, and staff
• Support students’ academic and social participation throughout the school day
• Accurately interpret classroom content, school events, and interactions, adapting as needed to the student’s age and comprehension level
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional code of ethics at all times

This opportunity offers the chance to make a direct difference in students’ educational experiences from now through late May 2027. Hours are estimated at approximately 37.5 per week, with assignment to a single campus for continuity and relationship building.
