Special Education Teacher - Tacoma, WA

Make a positive impact supporting young adults as a Special Education Teacher for ages 18-22 in a transition classroom. This full-time contract opportunity for the 2026-2027 school year is based onsite near Auburn, WA. The role focuses on guiding students as they navigate the transition to independent adult living, using your expertise and dedication to foster growth and real-world skills.

Desired Qualifications:

• WA Special Education (SPED) teaching license and ESA certificate (must provide verification upon application)
• Strong background in special education, preferably with previous school-based experience
• Experience or interest in working with individuals aged 18-22 in a transition or life-skills setting
• Passion for empowering diverse learners for success beyond school
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver instruction and support tailored to the needs of students aged 18-22 as they transition to adulthood
• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and transition goals
• Collaborate closely with other educators, support staff, and families to maximize student progress
• Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages independence and personal growth
• Participate in ongoing professional development and multi-disciplinary team meetings
• Maintain accurate records in compliance with state and federal special education regulations

Additional Details:

• Full-time, onsite position (37.5 hours/week, school calendar)
• Assignment spans the 2026-2027 school year
• Please note: The hiring process includes a BIE adjudication which may add up to one week to onboarding
