Job Description
Position Summary
Agostino Foods is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Inventory Control Production Planning Specialist
to ensure the accuracy and integrity of inventory throughout our meat production operation. The primary focus is
inventory control, production accounting, Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy, production batch transactions, and
maintaining accurate records of materials consumed and finished products produced.
The position will work closely with production and warehouse personnel and will require regular hands-on presence on
the plant floor. The successful candidate will verify that inventory transactions accurately reflect what is physically
happening in production, identify discrepancies, participate in cycle counts, and resolve material or finished-product
balances left in production buffers.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Production Accounting
Maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, ingredients, packaging materials, work-in-process, and
finished products.
Ensure all materials used in production are accurately scanned or otherwise issued from inventory to the
appropriate production batch or work order.
Ensure all finished products and production outputs are accurately scanned into inventory.
Reconcile production transactions with physical inventory and investigate discrepancies.
Monitor inventory movements between production, work-in-process, buffer areas, and finished goods.
Identify and resolve inventory transactions that are missing, incorrect, incomplete, or posted to the wrong batch.
Track production yields, material usage, waste, variances, and production adjustments.
Ensure production records accurately reflect actual material consumption and finished-product output.
Work with accounting/management to identify and resolve inventory valuation or quantity discrepancies.
Bill of Materials (BOM) Management
Maintain accurate Bills of Materials for all manufactured products.
Ensure BOMs accurately reflect current recipes/formulations, ingredients, packaging, quantities, and production
requirements.
Coordinate with production and management when products, formulations, packaging, or processes change.
Review production variances to identify potential BOM errors or process issues.
Production Planning Support
Assist management with production planning based on customer orders, inventory levels, production capacity, and
material availability.
Help ensure production batches are properly set up in the inventory/production system before production begins.
Verify that required materials are available and properly allocated to scheduled production.
Work with production personnel to ensure production batches are completed and closed accurately.
Plant Floor Inventory Control
Spend regular time on the production floor rather than performing the role entirely from an office.
Verify that physical product movements and system transactions are occurring accurately.
Participate in routine and periodic cycle counts of raw materials, work-in-process, packaging, and finished
products.
Investigate differences between physical counts and system inventory.
Resolve production left in the buffer and other incomplete inventory transactions.
Work directly with production employees to correct scanning, labeling, counting, and transaction issues.
Help establish and maintain disciplined inventory-control practices throughout the plant.
Reporting Continuous Improvement
Maintain inventory-control reports and production variance reports.
Monitor inventory accuracy and identify recurring sources of discrepancies.
Track and report inventory adjustments and investigate significant variances.
Recommend process improvement procedures for scanning, batch tracking, inventory transfers, cycle counting,
and production closeout.
Help train production employees on proper inventory transactions and scanning procedures.
Serve as a key point of communication between production, warehouse, accounting, and management regarding
inventory accuracy.
Qualifications
Required
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Strong aptitude for numbers, accounting, and inventory reconciliation.
Ability to understand how physical inventory movements translate into accounting/inventory-system transactions.
Strong computer skills and ability to learn ERP, inventory, production, or accounting software.
Ability to identify discrepancies and methodically determine their cause.
Comfortable working directly with production employees and spending significant time on the plant floor.
Ability to maintain accurate records in a fast-paced production environment.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Dependable, self-directed, and willing to take ownership of inventory accuracy.
Preferred
Experience in inventory control, cost accounting, production accounting, manufacturing accounting, or ERP
systems.
Experience working with Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Experience with production batches, work orders, inventory transactions, or manufacturing software.
Experience in food manufacturing, meat processing, or another manufacturing environment.
Experience performing cycle counts and inventory reconciliations.
Understanding of manufacturing costs, yields, material variances, and work-in-process.
Accounting, bookkeeping, supply-chain, manufacturing, or related education or experience.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an accounting-minded inventory professional who is comfortable getting out of the office and
onto the plant floor. This person should enjoy working with numbers and systems but also understand that accurate
inventory cannot be managed entirely from a computer. They must be willing to physically verify product, participate in
counts, observe production processes, talk with production employees, and follow discrepancies until they are resolved.
The successful candidate will have a trust but verify mindset—using system information as a starting point while
regularly confirming that the physical inventory and production activity match what the system says.
Because this is a small company, the position requires flexibility and a willingness to help solve problems wherever they
occur. The individual should be comfortable working independently, identifying issues without being asked, and bringing
solutions to management.
The position level, compensation, and scope of responsibility will be determined based on the candidates experience with
inventory control, manufacturing systems, accounting, BOMs, and production operations.
