Job Description

A busy and growing dermatology practice is looking to hire up to three full-time Medical Assistants to help administer medical care. Prior experience is beneficial but not required - we are willing to train the right individuals meeting the following criteria: dedicated, self-motivated, hardworking, dependable, punctual, and caring. Responsibilities:

  • Greet and prepare patients for examination/treatment by escorting them from the waiting area to the exam rooms
  • Confirm purpose of visit, and collect medical history and consent forms
  • Brief attending physicians on the patient visit reason, condition, and concerns
  • In returning patients, document and report progress or changes in patient condition or symptoms
  • Assist physicians during diagnostic, treatment, and surgery procedures and provide other patient care services per their direction, including but not limited to:
    • scribing and taking photographs
    • explaining treatment procedures to patients
    • administering medication, including injections
    • disinfecting and numbing the surgery area
    • handing and retrieving medical instruments and supplies
    • applying and changing surgical dressings and bandages
    • disposing of contaminated supplies
    • removing sutures and proving post-surgery guidance
    • electronically transmitting physicians' prescriptions and lab work orders
  • Facilitate referrals to other healthcare professionals and medical facilities
  • Maintain medication records and handle medication refill requests, per office protocol
  • Prepare, clean and maintain exam and procedure rooms
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, prepare instrument trays for various procedures
  • Create, maintain, and safeguard patient documents, records and personal information
  • Provide advice, assistance, and support to patients in person and on the phone
  • Answer incoming telephone calls, emails, and taskings
  • Schedule patients appointments, including surgeries
  • Receive and log patient medication and pharmaceutical company samples
  • Process in-house lab tests and outgoing tissue and viral/bacterial culture samples
  • Maintain inventory and reorder medical supplies
  • Perform other related work as required

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Familiarity with the medical field or relevant previous experience are desirable but not mandatory -- suitable new hires will receive on-the-job training and coaching by our physicians and experienced medical assistants
  • Dependability, punctuality, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential
  • Self-drive, motivation, critical thinking and problem solving skills are strongly desired

Physical Abilities:

  • Stand for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, sit, stoop and stretch
  • Have full range of body motion with ability to physically assist patients when necessary
  • Have a normal range of hearing and eyesight
  • Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and medical equipment
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds

Work Environment:

Our practice is a fast-pace, professional work environment. The position requires the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, physicians, clients, patients, insurance companies, and other members of the public on a regular basis. The position may cause exposure to communicable diseases, bodily nudity, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
