Legal Secretary / Front Desk Legal Assistant (Trust & Probate Law Office)

Location: Torrance, CA
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay: $23.00–$25.00/hour (DOE)

Temp-to-Hire Opportunity

A well-established Trust & Probate law firm in Torrance is seeking an experienced, organized, and detail-oriented Legal Secretary / Legal Assistant to support an attorney and paralegal team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated legal professional with law office experience who is interested in continuing to grow their legal career and potentially develop toward a paralegal role.

The ideal candidate is reliable, professional, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

Essential Duties

  • Provide administrative and legal support to attorneys and paralegals.
  • Maintain and organize client files, case documents, and legal records.
  • Update client notes and ensure files are accurate and properly maintained.
  • Manage office calendars, including court dates, meetings, conferences, and deadlines.
  • Prepare, scan, organize, and electronically file legal documents.
  • Assist with court e-filing and document submissions.
  • Assemble, bookmark, redact, and Bates stamp PDF documents using Adobe Acrobat Professional.
  • Maintain electronic files using cloud-based systems such as Dropbox.
  • Answer phones and communicate professionally with clients, courts, and outside parties.
  • Welcome and assist clients and visitors in a professional manner.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail, including copying, stamping, and distributing correspondence.
  • Assist with real property documents, including recording and filing instruments with County Recorder and Assessor offices.
  • Assist with monthly billing statements and general office administrative tasks.
  • Provide additional support to attorneys and paralegals as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a law office environment required.
  • Previous experience supporting attorneys and/or paralegals strongly preferred.
  • Experience in Trust, Probate, Estate Planning, or Litigation preferred.
  • Understanding of legal terminology, procedures, and law office practices.
  • Experience maintaining legal files and handling confidential documents.
  • Familiarity with court e-filing procedures preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Must be dependable, trustworthy, and able to handle sensitive client information.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Professional communication skills and a client-focused attitude.

Computer Skills Required

Must have strong computer skills, including experience with:

  • Adobe Acrobat Professional (PDF assembly, bookmarking, Bates stamping, and redacting documents)
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel)
  • Gmail/Outlook
  • Office calendaring systems
  • Dropbox and cloud-based document management systems
  • Scanning, organizing, and maintaining electronic files

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to obtain a California Notary Public commission (if not already licensed).
  • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to drive for occasional work-related errands, including document filing/recording as needed.
