Industrial Equipment Reconditioning Mechanic

Step into a day in our rebuild shop

You clock in, review the work order, and roll a well-used Tennant machine onto your bay. By mid-morning, you’ve documented a mechanical teardown, traced an electrical fault with your meter, and confirmed a hydraulic leak path. After lunch, you rebuild sub-assemblies, tune a diesel/LP engine for smooth drivability, and perform in-process quality checks before signing off the unit for final test. You end the day resetting your 5S area and noting two process improvements to discuss with the team tomorrow.

What you’ll own

• Disassemble and reassemble complex industrial cleaning equipment with sound judgment and precision.
• Teardown and rebuild a variety of used Tennant machines to like-new performance.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems; service battery systems; and work on air- and water‑cooled combustion engines plus diesel/gas/LP powertrains.
• Complete in-process quality checks and clearly communicate findings.
• Document and escalate safety concerns; adjust and verify builds to meet quality targets.
• Support the full reconditioning workflow from incoming evaluation to final test.
• Maintain and report on company tools/equipment and use them safely and correctly.
• Keep a clean, safe, and organized workstation using 5S practices.
• Contribute ideas for continuous improvement through the tiered escalation structure.
• Work proficiently across multiple sub-assembly operations and shorter cycle main-line stations.
• Uphold a professional image and be reliably punctual with consistent transportation to and from work.

How you’ll grow

Develop product mastery through self‑study, hands‑on work, and guidance from the Shop Supervisor. You’ll expand your diagnostic approach, cross-train on new sub-assemblies, and strengthen your continuous improvement mindset.

What you bring

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• 3+ years troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing mobile equipment.
• Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Safe use of hand/power tools, shop equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
• Familiarity with mechanical and electrical assembly concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Track record of continuous improvement; related manufacturing experience preferred.

Physical demands

• Regularly lift up to 40 lbs solo; most items are 2–20 lbs. Occasionally lift up to 90 lbs (assistance provided over 60 lbs).
• Rotate through multiple positions during a shift.
• Frequent sitting, standing, twisting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
• Daily bending, stooping, kneeling, or squatting (up to ~30% of the day).
• Medically capable of performing all job aspects safely.

Work environment

• Regular proximity to moving mechanical parts.
• Occasional exposure to heat and non‑toxic fumes; moderate noise.
• Occasional contact with oil, grease, gasoline, dust, metal particles, and sharp‑edged materials.

Safety gear

• Must be able to wear safety glasses, steel‑toed shoes, and hearing protection.
