Job Description
About CMT
CMT is a Charlotte-based professional engineering, construction, and project management company specializing in industrial and commercial projects throughout the United States. We provide comprehensive project solutions—from professional engineering design, project planning, and permitting through construction execution, system commissioning, and facility upgrades. Our capabilities include manufacturing facilities, industrial process systems, MEP infrastructure, automation and controls integration, cleanroom environments, energy projects, and large-scale capital improvements.
As CMT continues to expand across multiple states, we are building a strong team of engineers, project managers, and construction professionals committed to delivering safe, innovative, and cost-effective solutions. Our long-term vision is to become a fully integrated EPC organization capable of providing end-to-end Engineering, Procurement, and Construction services.
At CMT, we value professionalism, accountability, technical excellence, and teamwork. Team members are encouraged to take ownership of their work, develop their careers, and make a meaningful impact on both client projects and the continued growth of the company.
Position Overview
CMT is seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Assistant Project Manager to support the execution of industrial, commercial, and MEP construction projects.
This role bridges engineering and field operations. The Assistant Project Manager will work closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and site teams to help ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering or construction professional seeking hands-on project experience and a clear career path toward becoming a Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of industrial, commercial, and MEP construction projects.
- Review and coordinate engineering drawings, construction drawings, shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs.
- Support project scheduling, cost tracking, procurement, progress reporting, and document control.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, clients, and internal teams.
- Assist with change orders, payment documentation, meeting minutes, daily reports, and other project records.
- Participate in day-to-day construction-site management activities.
- Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress, productivity, quality, and safety compliance.
- Support equipment and system installation, testing, startup, punch-list completion, and commissioning.
- Track project milestones, deliverables, and action items to support timely project completion.
- Identify technical and field-related issues and coordinate with the appropriate teams to resolve them.
- Maintain effective communication between engineering teams, field personnel, contractors, and project stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- One to five years of experience in construction, MEP, industrial, manufacturing, or related projects.
- Ability to read and interpret construction and engineering drawings.
- Basic understanding of MEP systems, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
- Strong organizational, communication, documentation, and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Willingness to work at various project sites across the U.S. East Coast as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on industrial, manufacturing, cleanroom, energy, or process-related facilities.
- Exposure to field construction, general contractors, subcontractors, or EPC project environments.
- Experience with RFIs, submittals, change orders, cost tracking, scheduling, and project closeout.
- Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit, Primavera P6, or Microsoft Project.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese is strongly preferred due to regular technical communication and project coordination with Chinese-speaking stakeholders.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary range of $70,000–$100,000, based on qualifications and experience.
- Competitive compensation and benefits.
- Company-provided accommodation and meals during qualifying project assignments.
- Exposure to diverse industrial, commercial, and MEP projects.
- Hands-on experience across engineering, construction, and project delivery.
- Professional development and advancement opportunities toward a Project Manager position.
- Opportunity to grow with an expanding engineering and construction organization.
CMT is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are based on qualifications, experience, and business requirements without regard to any legally protected status.
