Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Plainfield, IL

Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) and Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M) in a vibrant district near Plainfield, IL. In this dynamic role, you’ll collaborate with educational teams across multiple schools, empowering visually impaired students to achieve greater independence and academic success. The assignment begins as soon as possible and continues through mid-December, with the potential for extension to a full academic year.

What’s Needed for Success:

• Valid teaching certification with endorsement as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
• Orientation & Mobility Specialist credentials preferred
• Experience providing direct and consultative services to K-12 students with visual impairments
• Deep understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Ability to work across multiple school sites
• Flexibility and a student-centered approach

Role Responsibilities:

• Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments both directly and through consultation with staff
• Assess students’ functional vision, design IEPs, and monitor progress
• Travel between assigned schools within the district (subject to change)
• Support the development and use of assistive adaptive tools and technology
• Provide orientation and mobility training to enhance independence and safe navigation
• Work closely with families, educators, and related service providers to ensure holistic support

Position Details:

• Contract role, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 3:00 pm
• Involvement across several schools in the district, with adjustments possible as the assignment progresses
• Immediate start through 12/18, with the chance for year-long placement
