Job Summary
We are seeking a caring and dependable multi-classroom Montessori Classroom Aide & Aftercare Assistant to support Toddler and Pre-K classrooms during the school day and students through Grade 6 in our aftercare program. This role supports the lead teacher in creating a nurturing, engaging, and safe environment that encourages independence, hands-on exploration, and child-led learning. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children and helping them grow socially, emotionally, and cognitively. After school, the position extends this support to students through Grade 6, maintaining a safe, welcoming, and engaging aftercare environment.

Responsibilities

Montessori Classroom Support

  • Assist the lead teacher with daily classroom routines and developmentally appropriate activities

  • Support a Montessori-inspired classroom environment that encourages independence and exploration

  • Guide children in using hands-on learning materials and practical life activities

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom

  • Supervise toddlers during play, meals, nap time, and outdoor activities

  • Assist with diapering, feeding, and other basic care needs

  • Encourage self-help skills such as cleaning up, handwashing, and putting materials away

  • Communicate with teachers and families about children’s daily activities and progress

  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities

Aftercare Support

The aftercare portion of this role is compensated as a stipend, separate from the base hourly/salaried rate for classroom hours.

  • Coordinate the daily aftercare flow, including attendance checks, snack time, homework blocks, outdoor play, and enrichment activities.

  • Ensure proper adult-to-student ratios are maintained across all groups and activity areas at all times.

  • Manage secure sign-out procedures, verifying authorized adults and accounting for all students transitioning from standard school hours to aftercare.

  • Maintain designated program spaces (cafeteria, gym, classrooms) and manage supplies for daily activities and games

  • Maintain accurate daily sign-in/sign-out records and submit attendance logs to the business office to ensure precise billing for hourly, drop-in, or contracted families.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required (CDA or Paraprofessional Certification preferred)

  • CPR and First Aid Certification (required)

  • Experience working with toddlers in a daycare, preschool, or early childhood setting preferred

  • Ability to work with students from toddler through Grade 6

  • Ability to effectively supervise students and maintain a safe, nurturing, and orderly environment

  • Ability to follow established safety, supervision, attendance, and student transition procedures

  • Patience, compassion, and a genuine passion for supporting children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and parents

  • Experience with Montessori or child-centered learning approaches is a plus
