Job Description
Picture your second-shift routine in a fast-paced factory: you clock in, review the latest blueprint package, and prep your CNC mill for a new rod-formed component run. Tooling gets verified, offsets are dialed in, and a quick dry-run confirms the program matches the drawing and GD&T callouts. You cut the first piece, measure with micrometers and calipers, and collaborate with Quality to sign off the setup before the line ramps.
As the production window unfolds, you watch cycle times, listen for spindle chatter, tweak feeds/speeds, and document every change so the next run is even better. You troubleshoot alarms, swap worn inserts, perform routine maintenance, and keep communication flowing with Engineering. Safety is constant: PPE on, lockout/tagout observed, and a tidy work cell throughout. Before shift end, you close the loop—update records, note improvements, and help a teammate master a tricky changeover.
What you will do- Set up and operate CNC milling machines to produce rod-formed components to specification.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, engineering notes, work instructions, and GD&T.
- Monitor operations; identify deviations and make on-the-fly adjustments to maintain tolerance.
- Verify parts using precision hand metrology (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
- Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
- Partner with Engineering and Quality to refine processes and boost throughput.
- Record machine parameters, quality checks, and production notes meticulously.
- Champion safety procedures and mentor other operators as needed.
- 2+ years operating CNC milling equipment; rod-forming or precision machining experience preferred.
- Fluent in prints, GD&T, and shop documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with solid problem-solving skills.
- Hands-on with precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
- Knowledge of CNC programming and G-code is a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and quality mindset.
- Environment: Factory setting with frequent interaction across production and warehouse areas.
- Physical demands: Regular walking, twisting, standing, bending, squatting, and lifting 50 lbs. or higher.
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday; flexibility for extended hours as needed. Temp-to-perm, second shift.
- Travel: Occasional travel for supplier visits, conferences, or inter-facility coordination.
Responsibilities listed describe key work performed; related tasks may be assigned as needed to meet manufacturing objectives.
