Heat Treat Furnace Operator

Overview

Anderson Shumaker Company is seeking a full-time Heat Treat Operator to join our manufacturing team. The Heat Treat Operator is responsible for operating heat treat equipment, processing forged steel components according to customer specifications, maintaining accurate production records, and ensuring compliance with company quality and safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor heat treat furnaces by safely loading and unloading materials.
• Review shop cards and heat treat requirements, including minimum and maximum Brinell Hardness Number (BHN) specifications.
• Set up heat treat cycles by selecting the proper temperatures, cycle times, and thermocouples.
• Monitor heat treat cycles and verify temperatures and processing parameters throughout the cycle.
• Record heat treat information accurately in the ERP system.
• Perform daily equipment verification and hardness tester checks.
• Perform Brinell hardness (BHN) testing and process test bars as required.
• Review heat treat charts to verify materials were processed according to specifications.
• Prepare customer heat treat charts when required by purchase order requirements.
• Stage completed parts for the next manufacturing operation.
• Identify and report nonconforming material and assist with proper documentation.
• Safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow all company quality policies, work instructions, and safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Manufacturing or heat treat experience preferred.
• Experience operating industrial furnaces or similar production equipment preferred.
• Basic understanding of heat treating processes and metallurgy preferred.
• Ability to read shop cards, work instructions, and manufacturing specifications.
• Basic computer skills; ERP experience is a plus.
• Ability to perform basic math, including fractions and decimals.
• Ability to read a tape measure and use measuring instruments accurately.
• Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, and heavy equipment.
• Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
