Job Description
Build Premium Residential Homes with Mark Richard Construction
Job Overview
Company: Mark Richard Construction
Pay: $25–$32+ per hour, based on demonstrated experience
Primary Hiring Area: Bloomfield Hills, Michigan
Work Location: On-site at residential jobsites throughout Metro Detroit
Employment Type: Full-time
Project Scope: Residential wood framing for custom new homes, additions, and remodels
The Opportunity
Mark Richard Construction is seeking an experienced Rough Carpentry Journeyman to help frame high-quality custom homes, additions, and residential remodeling projects throughout Metro Detroit.
You will work alongside experienced Foremen and carpenters on projects that require precision, craftsmanship, and strong residential framing knowledge. This is a hands-on position for someone who can read plans, complete framing tasks with limited supervision, and contribute to a safe, productive jobsite.
We offer consistent, year-round work, weekly pay, strong benefits, overtime opportunities, and a clear path for continued growth.
What You Will Do
- Read and interpret residential construction plans, specifications, and framing details.
- Lay out walls, floors, openings, headers, stairs, decks, and roof systems.
- Frame, square, plumb, and brace interior and exterior walls.
- Install floor joists, subflooring, beams, posts, and structural framing components.
- Frame conventional roofs, including rafters, hips, valleys, overhangs, and complex roof sections.
- Set roof trusses and safely complete roof sheathing.
- Install wall sheathing, house wrap, ZIP System products, and related weatherproofing materials.
- Install new-construction windows and exterior doors according to manufacturer requirements.
- Complete exterior siding, trim, soffit, fascia, and tongue-and-groove applications when required.
- Support framing work on additions and occupied homes while protecting the property from weather and unauthorized access.
- Identify layout, structural, or material concerns and communicate them promptly to the Foreman.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-conscious jobsite.
- Use personal hand tools and company-provided power equipment safely and responsibly.
- Work professionally around homeowners, builders, superintendents, and other trades.
- Assist apprentices and less-experienced carpenters when appropriate.
Required Qualifications
- Proven residential rough-framing experience on new homes, additions, or remodels.
- Ability to read residential blueprints and complete framing layouts accurately.
- Working knowledge of wall, floor, stair, deck, and roof-framing systems.
- Ability to frame, square, plumb, and brace walls with limited supervision.
- Experience safely working on roofs, ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work areas.
- Ability to lift and carry construction materials weighing approximately 50–70 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round in changing Michigan weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to changing jobsites.
- Ownership of standard carpentry hand tools, tool belt, work boots, and circular saw.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English with Foremen, coworkers, and project partners.
- Dependable attendance and a strong commitment to jobsite safety and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of residential rough-framing or carpentry experience.
- Experience with conventional roof framing, rafters, hips, valleys, and complex rooflines.
- Experience framing custom or high-end residential homes.
- Experience with additions, remodeling, and occupied-home projects.
- Experience installing windows, exterior doors, siding, soffit, fascia, or exterior trim.
- Experience working with structural steel, engineered lumber, timber components, or specialty openings.
- Fall-protection, aerial-lift, or other applicable safety training.
- High school diploma, GED, or relevant trade-school education.
- Interest in developing toward a Foreman or crew-lead position.
Compensation and Benefits
- $25–$32+ per hour, based on demonstrated experience and skill level.
- Weekly pay.
- Overtime opportunities, paid according to applicable requirements.
- Consistent, year-round work.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Health Savings Account options.
- 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching.
- Profit-sharing opportunities based on company performance.
- Paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
- Personal tool-replacement program.
- Paid training, apprenticeship development, and manufacturer safety training.
- Opportunities for advancement into higher-level Journeyman and Foreman responsibilities.
Work Environment
- Employees report directly to residential jobsites rather than a central shop.
- Most work is located throughout Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties.
- Projects range from additions and remodels to large custom residential homes.
- Crew sizes typically range from four to six employees, with larger teams assigned to major projects.
- Work may be performed around homeowners, occupied residences, builders, and other trades.
- Professional conduct, appropriate jobsite language, and respect for the client’s property are required.
