Tanglewood Conservatories in Denton, Maryland is looking for a skilled Painter / Finisher to join our team of craftspeople creating one of a kind conservatories, greenhouses, skylights, windows, doors, and architectural glass structures.
Every project that moves through our shop is custom designed and handcrafted for a specific home or property. As part of our finishing team, your work becomes one of the final steps in transforming raw wood and metal components into beautifully finished architectural pieces that will become part of homes and estates across the country.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working with their hands, has a strong eye for detail, takes pride in doing things the right way, and wants to be part of a team that creates things you will not find anywhere else.
What You'll Do
- Prepare wood, metal, and other architectural components for finishing through sanding, masking, cleaning, and priming
- Apply high quality paints, stains, sealants, varnishes, and protective coatings
- Work with both hand application and spray equipment
- Inspect your work carefully and correct imperfections before pieces leave the finishing area
- Mix and match colors and finishes according to project specifications
- Maintain clean, organized tools, equipment, and work areas
- Work alongside our woodworkers, metalworkers, assemblers, and other craftspeople to maintain Tanglewood's quality standards
- Follow established finishing processes and safety procedures

Previous painting or finishing experience in architectural millwork, cabinetry, automotive finishing, woodworking, metal fabrication, manufacturing, construction, or a similar skilled trade is preferred.

Tanglewood was founded in 1995 by architect-builder and textile design team, Alan and Nancy Virts. Following corporate careers and travel abroad, they became enamored with traditional glass architecture and established Tanglewood with the goal of creating uncommonly unique conservatories that combine historical inspiration with state-of-the-art technology and masterful craftsmanship.
