To help us continue to grow our offerings, we are seeking a Machinist who will assemble, repair, modify, and fabricate parts and components for tools, machines, fixtures, prototypes, and production equipment using machining and fabrication equipment. Supports Engineering in the fabrication and modification of R&D parts, prototypes, assemblies, fixtures, jigs, and tooling. Supports Production through CNC and manual machining, fabrication, tooling, equipment setup, troubleshooting, and repair. Ensures finished parts and assemblies meet applicable drawings, specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sets up and operates conventional, special-purpose, and CNC machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques.
  • Studies blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, CAD models, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances, sequence of operations, material requirements, and setup requirements.
  • Supports Engineering in the fabrication, assembly, modification, and testing of R&D prototypes, fixtures, jigs, tooling, test equipment, and one-off components.
  • Works from engineering drawings, CAD models, sketches, sample parts, and verbal direction to develop practical fabrication and machining solutions for prototype and production needs.
  • Uses computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software to create and modify programs for CNC mills, lathes, and other CNC equipment.
  • Understands G-code structure and is capable of reviewing, editing, and troubleshooting CNC programs as required.
  • Calculates and sets machining parameters such as speeds, feeds, coolant flow, depth of cut, tooling, and workholding requirements.
  • Sets up and operates CNC and manual machines and performs trial runs to verify machine settings, tooling, workholding, programs, and finished-part accuracy.
  • Fabricates prototype and production components using machining, welding, cutting, forming, bending, punching, grinding, drilling, rolling, and other metalworking processes.
  • Performs MIG and TIG welding, fitting, grinding, and general metal fabrication as required for prototypes, fixtures, tooling, repairs, and production support.
  • Sets up and operates applicable sheet-metal fabrication equipment such as press brakes, punch presses, lasers, shears, saws, and related machinery after appropriate training.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, and fabricates production tooling, dies, fixtures, jigs, and machine components. Verifies dimensions, alignment, clearances, and functionality and makes adjustments or corrections as necessary.
  • Uses precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, gauge blocks, dial indicators, and other inspection equipment to verify that parts meet drawings and specifications.
  • Performs inspection of fabricated and machined components throughout the manufacturing process to verify dimensions, tolerances, fit, and function.
  • Assists Engineering and Production in identifying practical manufacturing methods and may provide feedback regarding machinability, fabrication methods, tooling, workholding, material selection, and design-for-manufacturing considerations.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance of shop equipment and assists with the development and implementation of routine maintenance checklists.
  • Maintains machines, tooling, work areas, and the machine shop in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • May confer with Engineering, Production, Quality, Facilities, or other departments to resolve machining, fabrication, assembly, tooling, or equipment problems.
  • Supports production equipment and manufacturing processes through fabrication, repair, modification, setup, and troubleshooting as required.
  • Learns and operates applicable company-specific production and fabrication equipment after appropriate training.
  • Communicates effectively with peers, supervisors, Engineering, Production, and management.
  • Completes accurately all reports, documentation, and records as required by the Company. Attends meetings, training, and classes as required.
  • Uses knowledge of applicable safety standards, machine guarding, proper tooling practices, and personal protective equipment to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Performs all related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent degree required.

  • 3-5 years' experience in CNC machining, including set-up, programming and maintenance of machines.
  • Mechanical and mathematical aptitude.

  • Training in tool room machinery and procedures.

  • Experience in operation of manual tool room equipment.

  • Good communication, organizational, and mathematical skills.

  • Familiar with various tool-and-die making methods, materials, procedures, and equipment is a plus.

  • Ability to be a team player.
