Job Title: Structural Steel WelderJob Description

The Structural Steel Welder performs high-quality welding on structural steel components in accordance with project specifications, welding procedures, and industry standards. This role focuses on commercial, industrial, manufacturing, power generation, and heavy construction projects and requires a current AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Welding Certification, strong blueprint reading skills, and the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced fabrication and erection environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural welding on beams, columns, braces, trusses, stairs, handrails, and other miscellaneous steel components.
  • Weld in strict accordance with AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code requirements and project specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, erection drawings, welding symbols, and project documentation to execute work accurately.
  • Perform SMAW, GMAW, and other welding processes as required to meet project needs.
  • Complete groove welds, fillet welds, and full-penetration welds in multiple positions while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Inspect welds for quality, accuracy, and compliance with project and industry standards, identifying and correcting defects as needed.
  • Operate welding equipment, cutting torches, grinders, and other fabrication tools safely and effectively.
  • Collaborate closely with fitters, ironworkers, and erection crews to ensure proper fit-up, alignment, and installation of structural components.
  • Follow company quality control procedures and assist with weld inspections and documentation when required.
  • Maintain welding machines, tools, and related equipment in proper working condition, reporting any issues promptly.
  • Adhere to all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety requirements at all times.
  • Perform touch-up welding and field modifications as necessary to support project completion.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and maintain a clean and organized work area to support safety and productivity.
Essential Skills
  • Current AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Welding Certification.
  • Proficiency in structural welding on a wide range of steel components including beams, columns, braces, trusses, stairs, and handrails.
  • Ability to weld in accordance with AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code and project specifications.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, erection drawings, welding symbols, and project specifications.
  • Hands-on experience performing SMAW and GMAW welding processes.
  • Demonstrated skill in completing groove welds, fillet welds, and full-penetration welds in various positions.
  • Experience inspecting welds for quality, accuracy, and compliance with standards.
  • Ability to safely operate welding equipment, cutting torches, grinders, and other fabrication tools.
  • Solid understanding of OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Capability to work effectively with fitters, ironworkers, and erection crews in a team-oriented environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working on commercial, industrial, manufacturing, power generation, or heavy construction projects.
  • Familiarity with company quality control procedures and assisting with weld inspections.
  • Ability to perform touch-up welding and field modifications in changing site conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate welds.
  • Reliable work ethic with the ability to handle long shifts and extended hours when required.

Work Environment

This role is based in a structural steel fabrication and construction setting, supporting commercial, industrial, manufacturing, power generation, and heavy construction projects. Current hours run Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with a transition to a second shift that mirrors this schedule in long night shifts. You use welding machines, sticks, cutting torches, grinders, and other fabrication tools provided on site, while supplying your own personal protective equipment such as welding helmet, gloves, and boots. The environment requires strict adherence to OSHA regulations and site-specific safety policies, and you can expect physically demanding work in a shop or field setting with exposure to heat, noise, and heavy materials.

This is a Contract position based out of Memphis, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
