SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEERAs a member of the New Product Development Team, the Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for applying sound engineering principles and knowledge to develop unique mechanical component and system solutions to solve medium to high complexity problems.Responsibilities include overseeing, coordinating and executing on projects alongside a Project Manager from concept generation, through prototyping, design verification, system integration, design for manufacturing and assembly, production trials, and product qualification.The Senior Mechanical Engineer works closely with cross functional team members, establishes plans to complete work packages, helps develop qualification test plans, establishes engineering technical specifications responding to regulatory and marketing requirements, and communicates status to stakeholders..Minimal supervision is required, and proactive mentorship of peer and junior engineering team members is expected to achieve ultimate project success.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESQuickly and efficiently conceptualize and design optimal mechanical solutions to meet product functions;Conduct comprehensive analysis of new design solutions to validate capability and functionality including validation of 3D CAD simulation models;Provide direction to shop associates for fabrication of mock-up and rapid prototype models;Perform hands-on evaluation and testing of prototype components and systems;Create 3D CAD models and detailed drawings for components/assemblies within SolidWorks;Ability to manage large assemblies by maintaining accurate and robust top level models with multiple subsystem owners.Verify and maintain the accuracy and completeness of own and other engineer's 3D CAD models and detailed drawings against company CAD best practices;Clearly communicate design concepts, changes, and testing results to internal and external team members and stakeholders;Communicate status and deliver on assigned tasks as outlined by the Project Manager according to agreed to dates and deliverables ;Identify opportunities to establish best practices for processes within the team to drive efficiency and accuracy.Demonstrate leadership principles centered around ownership, accountability, and collaboration.Mentor team members in areas of expertise and serve as a knowledge resource for the team on these problems.Assist in defining and documenting engineering test plans, product qualification requirements, and manufacturing specifications;Support assignment of part numbers, creation of bill of materials, and other component/assembly parameters for entry and use in engineering documentation and business systems;Drive the product development to production with continued Engineering support post product release.Some international travel is required closely tied to significant milestone builds. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSBachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar;7 years' demonstrated experience in product design;Demonstrated capability of leading a small, cross functional team, to bring products from concept to production.Experience designing for a variety of manufacturing processes and materials, for example injection molded plastic, sheet metal stamping, die cast aluminum, cast iron, and machining;3D CAD software experience;Experience performing geometric dimensioning, tolerance stack up analysis, and DFMEAs;Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint);Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across functional groups and diverse audiences, while working in a dynamic team and project focused environment;Extremely detailed focused and highly organized individual. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSMaster of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar;Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD;Experience working with overseas manufacturers to bring products to market, specifically with Asian manufacturing companies;Experience with Microsoft Project and performing project management duties;Experience performing 3D CAD design simulation, i.e. Finite Element Analysis;Prototyping and machine tool operation experience (milling machine, lathe, drill press, welding).
