Maintenance Technician
Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining equipment integrity, minimizing downtime, and ensuring timely completion of repairs and preventative maintenance. This position requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, attention to safety, and the ability to work effectively with production and maintenance teams.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program with the goal of reducing unscheduled equipment downtime.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues by analyzing problems and interpreting technical information to determine the appropriate repairs.
- Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance and repairs on production machinery and facility support equipment.
- Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions and verify completed repairs.
- Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and plant electrical and mechanical systems, including motors, instrumentation, electrical distribution, feed control systems, and related components.
- Develop and implement sustainable solutions to recurring equipment issues.
- Complete assigned work orders within established timeframes.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed using maintenance software, work orders, and detailed logs.
- Assist with equipment changeovers and production line startups, troubleshooting issues as needed.
- Identify required parts and maintain accurate parts inventories and reorder lists.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), OSHA requirements, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), personal safety, and food safety standards.
- Work closely with production, maintenance, and other departments to communicate equipment issues and repair status.
- Ensure equipment operates properly to support the production of high-quality products.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, team projects, and process improvement efforts.
- Make recommendations to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and overall maintenance processes.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to lift and carry 50–80 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk for 8+ hours and perform repetitive motions.
- Frequently use hands to handle, feel, reach, and manipulate tools and equipment.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairways and operate a manlift/scissor lift at elevated heights while using required safety equipment.
- Ability to work in non-air-conditioned environments and areas with varying temperatures.
- Frequent exposure to oils, greases, coolants, and other maintenance-related materials.
- Occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and perform tasks requiring bending or reaching.
- May occasionally work in wet or humid conditions, elevated or precarious locations, outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat, and areas with vibration.
- May have occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and must follow all required safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Must be able to talk, hear, and communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
- Must have sufficient close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus.
