Inova Loudoun ASC is currently hiring for a Full-Time, Pre-Surgical Assessment Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This role is fully remote; however, the selected candidate must be willing and available to complete onsite training before transitioning to a remote work arrangement.

Job Summary:

A Pre-Surgical Assessment Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) helps prepare patients for scheduled surgical procedures by collecting clinical information, reviewing medical histories, and confirming that all pre-anesthesia and pre-operative requirements have been met. Working under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or physician, the LPN plays an important role in promoting patient safety, identifying potential concerns before surgery, and minimizing day-of-surgery delays by ensuring required documentation, testing, and patient instructions are complete.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Patient Assessment: Collect vital signs, height, weight, current medications, allergies, and other relevant health information
  • Medical History Review: Conduct structured telephone or in-person assessments to review medical history, previous surgeries, chronic conditions, and prior anesthesia experiences
  • Pre-Operative Screening: Verify that all required pre-surgical testing, such as laboratory work, electrocardiograms (EKGs), and diagnostic imaging, has been completed. Report abnormal findings or missing information to the supervising RN, physician, or anesthesia provider
  • Patient Education: Reinforce pre-operative instructions, including fasting (NPO) requirements, medication guidelines, arrival times, and other preparation instructions to help patients arrive ready for surgery
  • Documentation: Accurately document assessment findings, screening results, patient education, and completed testing in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Care Coordination: Communicate with patients, surgeons, anesthesiologists, primary care providers, and administrative staff to ensure all pre-operative requirements are satisfied before the scheduled procedure
  • Compliance & Quality: Follow organizational policies, clinical protocols, and regulatory standards to support safe, efficient surgical care

Qualifications:

  • Two or more years as an LPN, preferably in a surgical setting
  • Active, unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Virginia or compact-state licensure
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic computer applications
  • Ability to follow standardized clinical protocols and work effectively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Previous experience in pre-admission testing, perioperative services, ambulatory surgery, or acute care is often preferred but may not be required
