Richmond, VA, US Full Time

Job Description

Job Description

Join a small, deeply dedicated team in Richmond, VA, making a profound impact on animal welfare. Established in 1992 as an animal welfare non-profit, P.A.L. was Virginia’s first low-cost, non-profit spay/neuter hospital, operating with a mission to eliminate the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable companion animals by providing high-quality, accessible services without regard to income or geography. We are seeking a passionate, licensed DVM to succeed our beloved lead surgeon, who is retiring at the end of the year after anchoring our clinic since 1999. We currently hold three surgery days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday) from 8:00 AM until completion (typically between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM). However, we offer immense flexibility for incoming candidates; we are entirely open to altering our schedule to any preferred arrangement between Monday and Saturday, and we possess the infrastructure to expand up to a comprehensive schedule of five surgery days per week if necessary to suit your personal lifestyle or clinical scheduling preferences. Key responsibilities would include conducting brief pre-operative physical examinations, performing high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (and occasionally other soft tissue) surgeries and vaccines for dogs, cats and feral/community cats, along with overseeing anesthetic protocols, post-operative care, emergency response during recovery, and collaborating closely with our dedicated veterinary assistants and administrative team.

This role offers an exceptional work-life balance with a strict no emergency or after-hours calls policy, letting you focus entirely on high-quality, high-volume surgical care alongside a highly efficient support staff. We offer a salary range of $92,610–$144,648, fully covered free health insurance, professional license fee coverage, and 3 weeks of unpaid vacation per year. Candidates must hold or be eligible for an active Virginia veterinary license and possess strong comfort or experience with high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter (HQHVSN) surgical techniques. To apply and step into this deeply rewarding, mission-driven role, please submit your application and resume today.

\nCompany Description

Prevent A Litter is the first low-cost spay/neuter hospital in Virginia. Since opening in April 1999, PAL has performed in excess of 100,000 surgeries, preventing millions of births of unwanted animals that might otherwise be euthanized. Others would be abandoned to the streets, suffering from cold and hunger while spreading disease and adding to the city’s already staggering number of stray and feral animals.

The mission of Prevent A Litter Veterinary Hospital is to eliminate the killing of healthy, otherwise adoptable companion animals simply because they are surplus and cannot be placed in loving homes. PAL plans to accomplish this goal by providing high-quality, affordable, and accessible spay/neuter services to the public without regard to income or geography.

Prevent A Litter Veterinary Hospital is a non-profit, fully licensed facility. Our doctors are licensed, skilled professionals who work with a fully trained, experienced medical team dedicated to providing the highest quality care.
