Thermal Systems Engineer
Job Description
Thermal Systems Engineer
Location: Washington, DC (with periodic time at sea)
Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $130,000 - $150,000
AGF Talent is leading the search for a Thermal Systems Engineer on behalf of a fast-growing company building a first-of-its-kind class of ocean-deployed infrastructure.
The Opportunity
This organization is building a first-of-its-kind class of energy-generating infrastructure, blending thermodynamics, marine systems, and power generation in ways that haven't been done before.
This role is the one that makes the platform's economics work. You'll own the thermal architecture end to end, figuring out how to turn a challenging environment into a reliable energy source.
If you love ambiguous, hard problems and want to build something that's never existed before, this is about as ground-floor as it gets.
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing and optimizing ocean thermal energy systems that use seawater temperature differentials to generate power
- Architecting waste heat recovery systems that capture thermal output from high-density compute and recover it through Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology
- Owning working fluid selection, thermodynamic cycle optimization, turbine performance, and heat exchanger design
- Building and validating thermal models, from first-principles theory through empirical testing, and owning the instrumentation strategy that makes those models trustworthy
What You Bring
- A B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field, with a strong thermodynamics focus
- Direct experience designing, building, and testing thermal energy systems, such as heat pumps, ORC systems, waste heat recovery, enhanced geothermal, ocean thermal, or similar technologies
- The ability to think across disciplines and at the full-system level, not just the component level
- Willingness to spend periodic time at sea as part of platform testing and validation
What's In It For You
- Competitive salary of $130,000-$150,000
- Meaningful equity in a fast-growing company
- Generous relocation assistance for candidates relocating from anywhere in the US
- A seat at the ground floor of an entirely new category of infrastructure
If you're ready to help build something that's never been built before, we'd love to hear from you.
