Job Description

Ophthalmic Technician / Aesthetic Clinic Coordinator

VitalEyes with Vitality Medicine – Ocala, Florida

We are looking for an energetic, dependable, and highly motivated Ophthalmic Technician to join our growing ophthalmology and aesthetic practice.

This is a unique position for someone who enjoys traditional ophthalmology but is also excited about aesthetic medicine, wellness, and helping grow and operate the aesthetic side of a medical practice.

Who We Are Looking For

Technical skills are important, but attitude, initiative, and commitment to patient care are equally important to us.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Puts patient care first and understands that every member of the team contributes to the patient’s experience and safety.
  • Takes ownership of their responsibilities and follows tasks through to completion.
  • Can look around the office, recognize what needs to be done, and take initiative without waiting to be asked.
  • Is willing to help coworkers and understands that “that’s not my job” is not part of a successful small-practice environment.
  • Is dependable, organized, positive, and professional.
  • Pays attention to details and recognizes when something is unusual or requires the physician’s attention.
  • Is comfortable asking questions or requesting help when they are unsure rather than guessing or allowing something important to go unaddressed.
  • Enjoys learning and wants to continue developing both ophthalmic and aesthetic skills.
  • Is comfortable working in a growing practice where responsibilities may evolve over time.

Ophthalmic Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Obtaining accurate patient histories and medication information
  • Measuring and documenting visual acuity, including appropriately evaluating patients with significantly reduced vision
  • Checking pupils, extraocular movements, confrontation fields, and other components of the ophthalmic workup
  • Performing tonometry and other routine testing
  • Assisting with OCT, visual fields, fundus photography and other diagnostic testing, refracting
  • Preparing patients for physician examinations and procedures
  • Assisting with minor ophthalmic and oculoplastic procedures
  • Reviewing charts to ensure necessary records, testing, consents, and documentation are available
  • Recognizing abnormal or incomplete findings and communicating them appropriately to the physician
  • Maintaining exam rooms, instruments, supplies, and clinical areas
  • Helping maintain efficient patient flow throughout the day

Aesthetic Clinic Responsibilities

This position will also play an active role in our aesthetic clinic and may include:

  • Assisting the physician with aesthetic procedures and treatments
  • Preparing treatment rooms and patients
  • Taking standardized before-and-after photographs
  • Assisting with aesthetic devices and treatments as appropriate based on training and scope of practice
  • Educating patients about treatments and skincare
  • Following up with aesthetic patients
  • Maintaining aesthetic supplies and inventory
  • Helping coordinate aesthetic appointments and clinic flow
  • Helping develop and improve aesthetic clinic processes
  • Participating in promotions, events, patient education, and practice-growth initiatives
  • Helping create an exceptional, welcoming aesthetic patient experience

We are especially interested in someone who would enjoy taking ownership of the day-to-day organization and growth of the aesthetic clinic, rather than simply assisting when asked.

The Right Person for Our Team

Our ideal candidate is the person who sees that a patient needs assistance and helps them, notices that a room needs to be turned over and does it, realizes that something is missing from a chart and tracks it down, or sees that a coworker is overwhelmed and steps in.

We value people who think ahead, communicate, solve problems, and follow through.

We are a growing practice, so flexibility and teamwork are essential. We want someone who is excited about helping build something and who takes pride in making the practice better.

Qualifications

  • Previous ophthalmic technician experience strongly preferred
  • COA/COT certification is a plus but not required for the right candidate
  • Experience with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment preferred
  • Aesthetic, dermatology, plastic surgery, med-spa, or cosmetic medicine experience is a plus
  • Strong computer and documentation skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Comfortable learning new technology, treatments, and procedures

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work directly with an ophthalmologist in a growing independent practice
  • Exposure to both medical/surgical ophthalmology and aesthetic medicine
  • Training and opportunities to expand your skills
  • The opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as the practice grows
  • A team environment where initiative and excellent work are recognized

If you are someone who takes pride in excellent patient care, notices what needs to be done, follows through, and wants to become an important part of a growing ophthalmology and aesthetic practice, we would love to hear from you.
