WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a Caregiver at Glen Haven, you will:
- Provide hands-on personal care. Support residents with bathing, showering, grooming, toileting, incontinence care, dressing, and safe transfers/ambulation according to the care plan.
- Support a calm, predictable daily routine. Offer companionship, redirection, cueing for memory support, and encourage participation in simple activities (conversation, music, reading, short walks, meals together).
- Monitor and document resident status. Follow written care plans, complete basic shift documentation, and immediately report changes in condition, behavior, appetite, mobility, or skin integrity.
- Administer medications safely and accurately. Give medications as ordered, follow the MAR exactly, follow all “five rights” of medication administration, and promptly report and document any medication issues per policy.
- Communicate clearly with the care team and families. Give and receive thorough shift reports, escalate concerns quickly, and maintain a calm, professional tone with residents and families at all times.
We are only considering applicants who are fully trained and cleared to administer medications in a North Carolina adult/family care home. You must meet all of the following to be hired:
1. Already a current CNA in North Carolina
- If you are not already listed on the NC CNA Registry, you must provide documentation of successful completion of an approved 80‑hour PCA (personal care aide) training program under North Carolina rules and active enrollment in a local CNA training program.
- No certificate = no job offer.
- Completed the required North Carolina medication training (10‑hour/5‑hour classes or equivalent) for adult/family care settings.
- Passed the North Carolina Medication Aide exam and are currently eligible to pass medications in an assisted living/family care home.
- Comfortable and experienced using a MAR, following written orders, and documenting medications correctly.
- At least 3 years of paid experience providing direct personal care to older adults in a facility or in‑home setting.
- Formal training and hands-on experience with memory care/dementia is strongly preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- At least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Able to pass required background checks and health/TB screening.
- Current CPR/BLS training certificate
- Able to lift, push, and pull at least 50 lbs with reasonable accommodation and to stand/walk for most of the shift.
- Able to read and follow written care plans and document care in English (paper and basic electronic formats).
- Reliable transportation and a strong history of on‑time attendance.
You will do well at Glen Haven if you:
