Degenkolb Engineers is seeking a Business Development professional to work with our Michigan-based team. We are at the forefront of the structural engineering industry and dedicated to our clients’ needs, looking to showcase our expertise and commitment. We desire a team member to join in efforts to market our structural engineering services in existing and growth vertical markets. We offer a hybrid work schedule with anticipated time in Detroit and Grand Rapids.

Job Summary

Contribute to the successful operations of the Michigan region through thoughtful, strategic advising and partnership with firm leaders. Primary areas of responsibility include client development, lead generation, Business Development coaching, and Marketing/Business Development team integration.

This position is right for you if you have:

  • A commitment to managing and expanding your network with architects, general contractors and owner’s reps.

  • Demonstrated “big picture” outlook for strategy and ability to provide actionable advice for the execution of business development plans.

  • Success working with professional teams to manage new service development, including launching campaigns for new business lines.

  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and manage the efforts of changing teams of diverse and creative employees.

  • Effective written communication skills including application and refinement of firm lexicon across proposals, PR, website, and other written communications.

  • Strong verbal communication skills. Willing and able to be the initial contact in business development pursuits.

  • Cooperative planning of effective, branded marketing communications across platforms with internal marketing team and outside media, marketing, and PR groups.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and process improvement.

Minimum Requirements

  • 10 years of experience in the AEC industry
  • Effective communication skills in relationship building
  • Strong research skills for lead generation
  • Proficient in MS Office and Adobe CS
  • Professional certification: FSMPS, CPSM, Professional Business Developer, MBA, or similar

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience using CRM software
  • Superior writing and editing skills
  • Four-year degree in Marketing or related discipline
  • RFP/RFQ coordination and completion experience
  • Familiarity with digital imaging, printing, and graphics
  • Ability to mentor staff in growing business development skills

Compensation & Benefits

The annual salary range for this position across our offices generally falls between $125,000 and $150,000. This range is a good-faith estimate provided pursuant to applicable pay transparency laws. Actual compensation will be based on factors including work location, company geographic differentials, education, experience, and candidate qualifications.
