Get Well Clinic is seeking a dependable, experienced, and patient-focused Medical Assistant to join our growing Lufkin team.
This position is ideal for an MA comfortable working in a busy family practice while also supporting a medical weight-management program. We are looking for someone who can confidently move between routine primary care visits, sick visits, preventive care, injections, laboratory services, medication coordination, and weight-management patients.
Previous family practice experience is strongly preferred, and medical weight-management experience is highly desirable.
If you have experience with family medicine, primary care, GLP-1 programs, semaglutide, tirzepatide, injection clinics, weight-loss patients, or body-composition tracking, we especially want to hear from you.

What You'll Do
As a Medical Assistant at Get Well Clinic, you'll work closely with our providers and clinical team to support patients across family medicine, preventive care, acute care, and medical weight management.
Family Practice & Primary Care Responsibilities
Your responsibilities may include:
- Rooming patients and obtaining accurate vital signs
- Completing detailed patient intake, including medication reconciliation, allergies, medical history, and reason for visit
- Preparing patient charts before provider visits
- Assisting with annual physicals, well-child examinations, sports physicals, Medicare visits, follow-up visits, and sick visits
- Supporting visits for common primary care conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, respiratory illnesses, allergies, minor infections, rashes, musculoskeletal complaints, and other outpatient concerns
- Preparing patients for procedures, examinations, and diagnostic testing
- Administering vaccines and medications as ordered by the provider and permitted within the MA scope of practice
- Performing venipuncture and preparing laboratory specimens
- Performing or assisting with urinalysis, pregnancy testing, strep testing, flu/COVID testing, EKGs, and other point-of-care testing as applicable
- Reviewing charts for outstanding labs, referrals, preventive services, and follow-up needs
- Assisting with specialist referrals and coordinating patient follow-up
- Communicating with pharmacies regarding prescriptions and medication questions under provider direction
- Assisting with medication prior authorizations and insurance documentation
- Returning patient calls and documenting communications accurately in the EMR
- Supporting prescription refill workflows and routing requests appropriately to the provider
- Providing professional patient education within the Medical Assistant scope of practice
- Maintaining accurate, complete, and timely clinical documentation
- Keeping exam rooms clean, organized, sanitized, and fully stocked
You will also assist with our medical weight-management program, including:
- Obtaining and documenting weight, BMI, vital signs, and body-composition measurements
- Completing weight-management patient intake and preparing charts for provider review
- Tracking patient progress, medication doses, follow-up dates, and treatment milestones
- Supporting patients prescribed semaglutide, tirzepatide, and other provider-directed weight-management treatments
- Administering subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as ordered by the provider
- Administering GLP-1, vitamin B12, lipotropic, and other clinic injections as ordered
- Accurately documenting medication name, dose, route, administration site, date, and other required information
- Assisting with GLP-1 medication prior authorizations and pharmacy coordination
- Reinforcing provider-established treatment instructions and follow-up schedules
- Helping identify patients who are due or overdue for weight-management follow-up
- Maintaining accurate medication and injection documentation
- Providing a supportive and professional experience for patients throughout their weight-management journey

- Previous Medical Assistant experience

Family medicine, family practice, primary care, or urgent care experience strongly preferred
- Medical weight-management or weight-loss clinic experience highly desirable
- Experience working with GLP-1 medications, semaglutide, tirzepatide, or injection-based programs is a major plus
- Current CMA, RMA, or CCMA certification preferred
- Comfortable administering subcutaneous and intramuscular injections
- Experience administering vaccines
- Strong phlebotomy skills preferred
- Experience with EKGs and point-of-care testing
- Experience using an electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Strong clinical documentation and organizational skills
- Experience with referrals and medication prior authorizations
- Comfortable communicating professionally with pharmacies, insurance companies, specialists, and patients
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
- Excellent communication and customer-service skills
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced outpatient clinic
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism
- Comfortable working closely with a Nurse Practitioner and clinical team
