Accounting Assistant - Part Time
Job Description
Center for Hope and Safety, located in Bergen County NJ, is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting victims of domestic violence and their children. We believe every person has the right to be safe, empowered and free from violence.
The Accounting Assistant will be responsible for managing financial documents for the Accounting Department, including filing, copying and scanning, as well as performing other administrative tasks to support the day-to-day operations of the accounting department. This is a part time position working 3 days per week, 9:30am-5:30pm.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist with all accounting-related administrative tasks.
- File all payables and receivables by vendor.
- File all fundraising batches by day/month.
- Assist with gathering materials for all grant reporting and the audit.
- Maintain bank statements in both scan form (digital) and appropriate binders.
- Make deposits at the bank as needed.

Qualifications
- HS Diploma required, higher degree preferred
- Minimum one (1) year experience in accounting/bookkeeping preferred
- Experience with nonprofit software highly preferred, or must be willing to learn
- Valid driver's license and own car required

- Strong organizational, multitasking, and interpersonal skills
- Motivated self-starter with strong computer skills, including Excel
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work independently, and collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to build positive working relationships with survivors, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners
- Flexibility, adaptability, and commitment to the mission and values of the Center for Hope and Safety
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and use standard office equipment for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
- Ability to perform repetitive keyboard and hand movements
