Labor Relations Consultant (Union Manufacturing)


Location: Mebane, NC (100% Onsite)
Duration: 6-Month Contract
Hourly pay rate: $45-48/HR


This highly visible position will provide strategic and hands-on labor relations support within a unionized manufacturing environment. The Labor Relations Consultant will partner closely with site leadership, serving as a trusted advisor on union matters, labor strategy, contract interpretation, grievance resolution, and workplace practices.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working directly with union contracts and participating in multiple rounds of collective bargaining negotiations. This position requires someone who can quickly assess complex labor relations matters, provide practical guidance to leadership, and help strengthen the organization’s approach to union engagement and contract administration.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to site leadership on labor relations matters and union engagement strategies.
  • Interpret and provide guidance on the application of collective bargaining agreements and union contract language.
  • Advise managers on labor relations practices, contract administration, and union-related workplace matters.
  • Support grievance administration and the resolution of employee and labor relations concerns.
  • Assist leadership with preparing for collective bargaining negotiations, including strategy development, proposal evaluation, risk assessment, and negotiation planning.
  • Participate in labor contract negotiations and support the development of negotiation strategies.
  • Partner with operational and business leaders to evaluate the labor implications of organizational and workplace changes.
  • Build productive working relationships with union representatives while maintaining alignment with business objectives.
  • Coach and develop leaders on labor relations best practices and effective management within a unionized environment.
  • Proactively identify and address workplace concerns before they escalate into formal grievances or disputes.
  • Evaluate complex labor relations challenges and recommend practical, business-focused solutions.
  • Provide recommendations that balance operational needs, employee relations considerations, and contractual obligations.
Required Qualifications
  • 10 or more years of progressive labor relations experience in a unionized environment.
  • Hands-on labor relations experience supporting a unionized manufacturing operation.
  • Extensive experience interpreting and administering collective bargaining agreements and union contracts.
  • Proven experience participating in multiple rounds of collective bargaining or labor contract negotiations.
  • Strong background in grievance administration, employee relations, and union engagement.
  • Experience advising senior leaders and management teams on labor relations strategies and workplace practices.
  • Strong understanding of labor relations principles and the collective bargaining process.
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and develop practical, business-focused solutions.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and business needs.
  • Ability to work 100% onsite in Mebane, NC for the duration of the contract.
