Job Description

Job Description
Lead the Work That Keeps a City Moving

Sunrise finds you on site, walking the traffic control setup, checking utilities are located and cleared, and confirming the day’s plan with Foremen. By mid-morning, you’re sequencing trenching, boring, and conduit runs, coordinating bucket and crane trucks for pole erection, and validating cabinet locations against redlined plans. In the afternoon, you’re troubleshooting a detection issue, closing out inspections, and updating HCSS with installed quantities and production. You end the day aligning crews for tomorrow’s look-ahead while reinforcing a strong safety culture.

What You’ll Take Charge Of
  • Direct daily field execution for signal, ITS, illumination, pedestrian, underground, and overhead scopes across multiple projects.
  • Translate plans, specifications, traffic signal standards, wiring diagrams, cabinet drawings, and details into clear field direction.
  • Lay out and verify signal poles, foundations, conduit, pull boxes, cabinets, detection, pedestrian features, and related equipment in partnership with Survey and Project Management.
  • Plan work sequences: utility locating, trenching, drilling/boring, conduit placement, foundation construction, pole setting, cabling, cabinet install, testing, and system turn-on.
  • Resolve constructability and field conflicts (utilities, access, phasing, tolerances, existing infrastructure) within your authority.
  • Enforce QA/QC for foundations, conduit systems, wiring, grounding, terminations, cabinet installation, test readiness, punch items, and final acceptance.
  • Set the means and methods for high-risk tasks including crane/bucket work, high-mast or large sign installs, deep excavations, night operations, and active-traffic phasing.
  • Lead troubleshooting for detection, MMUs/conflict monitors, controllers, communications, and field devices.
  • Own safety on site; uphold OSHA, TxDOT, COSA, COA, and company safety requirements.
  • Run safety audits focused on traffic control, trenching/excavation, lifting, fall protection, electrical hazards, confined space, and equipment use.
  • Confirm permits, inspections, utility clearances, traffic control plans, and safety documentation are in place before work begins.
  • Partner with Safety on incident investigations, corrective actions, and targeted retraining; lead daily safety huddles and hold teams accountable.
  • Supervise Foremen and guide several underground and/or overhead crews.
  • Set production goals; balance manpower, equipment, and sequencing to maintain schedule commitments.
  • Schedule and deploy bucket trucks, crane trucks, pressure diggers, trenchers, hydrovacs, HDD rigs, TMAs, PCMS, arrow boards, excavators, and other support gear.
  • Coordinate with Fleet, Yard, and Procurement for equipment readiness, specialty tools, staging, and on-time deliveries.
  • Track signal materials, consignment inventory, equipment, and long-lead/high-demand items to prevent shortages and waste.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, installed quantities, redlines, test records, production reports, and HCSS entries.
  • Contribute to weekly planning, L10s, look-aheads, and coordination meetings.
  • Monitor schedule and budget performance; surface risks and constraints to Project Management and the Area Superintendent.
  • Deploy standard work, lessons learned, field training, and continuous improvement across crews.
  • Serve as the primary field contact for inspectors, agencies, utilities, and clients.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, energization, punch-list burn-down, and final acceptance.
  • Participate in preconstruction, progress, and final walkthrough meetings; uphold jobsite professionalism, housekeeping, traffic control, and public interface.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
About You
  • 7–10+ years of progressive traffic signal or closely related electrical/civil field experience, including time as a Superintendent or senior Foreman.
  • Deep knowledge of signal/ITS/illumination work, underground conduit and foundations, and overhead signal installation.
  • Fluent with TxDOT, COSA, COA, NEC, MUTCD, project specifications, and signal QA/QC practices.
  • Can read and apply plans, wiring diagrams, cabinet drawings, traffic control plans, and schedules.
  • OSHA 30 preferred; excavation/trenching competent person and IMSA certifications preferred.
  • Comfortable with iPad-based field tools; experienced with HCSS for time, quantities, diaries, and documentation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, planning, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and the flexibility to work nights/weekends or respond to emergencies as operations require.
  • High school diploma/equivalent required; coursework in electrical, construction management, or related fields preferred.
