Driver / Transportation Assistant – Assisted Living

We are seeking a dependable, safety-focused, and compassionate Driver / Transportation Assistant to join our team.

In this role, you will provide safe and courteous transportation for residents to medical appointments, shopping trips, community outings, events, and other scheduled destinations. You will also assist residents as they enter and exit community vehicles and help ensure that every trip is comfortable, organized, and enjoyable.

What You’ll Do
  • Safely transport residents to and from medical appointments, shopping trips, community outings, recreational activities, and other approved destinations

  • Operate community vehicles in a safe, courteous, and responsible manner

  • Assist residents entering and exiting vehicles

  • Provide appropriate assistance to residents who use walkers, wheelchairs, or other mobility devices

  • Properly secure wheelchairs, mobility devices, and other equipment before transportation

  • Ensure residents are safely seated and using required seat belts or restraints before the vehicle is moved

  • Confirm transportation schedules, destinations, appointment times, and resident information before departure

  • Coordinate with community team members regarding transportation needs and schedule changes

  • Maintain appropriate communication with the community while transporting residents

  • Provide friendly, respectful, and patient assistance to residents throughout transportation

  • Maintain resident privacy, dignity, and confidentiality

  • Perform required vehicle safety checks before use

  • Monitor fuel levels and report vehicle maintenance or repair needs promptly

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of community vehicles

  • Complete vehicle logs, mileage records, inspection forms, and transportation documentation as required

  • Immediately report accidents, vehicle damage, safety concerns, or resident incidents

  • Follow all traffic laws, community transportation policies, and safety procedures

  • Assist with loading and unloading resident belongings, mobility equipment, and supplies

  • Support resident outings and community activities when assigned

  • Assist with other community responsibilities when transportation duties are not scheduled

  • Complete additional duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For
  • Current and valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle being operated

  • Safe driving record that meets Company and insurance requirements

  • Ability to successfully complete required motor vehicle record checks

  • Dependable, punctual, and safety-focused approach

  • Genuine interest in working with older adults

  • Patient, friendly, and professional demeanor

  • Strong customer service and communication skills

  • Ability to follow transportation schedules and directions

  • Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to resident safety concerns

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, verbally and in writing, as required to understand transportation instructions, communicate with residents and team members, complete documentation, and respond during emergencies

  • Ability to safely assist residents with entering and exiting vehicles

  • Ability to safely handle walkers, wheelchairs, and other mobility devices

  • Ability to safely lift, push, pull, and carry up to (physical requirement) pounds

  • Ability to sit and drive for extended periods and frequently enter and exit a vehicle

  • Ability to work independently and use good judgment

  • Previous professional driving, senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or transportation experience is preferred

  • Experience transporting older adults or individuals with mobility needs is preferred

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or must be obtained if required by the community

  • Ability to successfully complete required background checks, health screenings, and employment requirements

Driver and Vehicle Requirements
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license throughout employment

  • Must maintain a driving record acceptable to the Company and its automobile insurance carrier

  • Must immediately report any suspension, restriction, expiration, or other change affecting driving privileges

  • May only operate vehicles for which the employee is properly licensed, trained, and authorized

  • Must complete any required training before operating wheelchair-accessible vehicles, lifts, ramps, or securement systems

  • Must inspect the assigned vehicle before use and report safety or mechanical concerns

  • Must follow all applicable traffic laws and community transportation procedures

  • Personal cell phone use while operating a community vehicle is prohibited except as permitted by law and Company policy

  • Residents must never be left unattended in a vehicle when doing so would create a safety risk

  • Transportation must be provided only for authorized residents, destinations, and purposes
