About the Role:
The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers by ensuring the smooth operation of clinical and administrative tasks within a medical facility. This position involves direct patient interaction, including preparing patients for examinations, taking vital signs, and assisting with medical procedures such as phlebotomy and specimen collection. The Medical Assistant is conducting follow-up phone calls to patients after medical procedures to assess recovery, address questions or concerns, reinforce provider instructions, and document patient responses in the electronic medical record (EMR).Responsible for maintaining a clean and sterile environment by properly sterilizing medical instruments and managing specimen processing. Additionally, this role requires effective communication skills to answer phones, schedule appointments, and coordinate with Nurse Practitioners and other healthcare staff. Ultimately, the Medical Assistant contributes to delivering high-quality patient care and enhancing the overall efficiency of the healthcare team.
We are excited to announce we are looking for a Per Diem (Extended Assignment), Bronx Gastroenterology (BXG) in Bronx, NY.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs and recording medical histories.
- Contact patients following procedures to monitor recovery status, review post-procedure instructions, document outcomes, and report any concerns to the provider.
- Assist healthcare providers, including Nurse Practitioners, during medical procedures and examinations.
- Process and label specimens for laboratory testing following established protocols.
- Sterilize medical instruments and maintain a clean clinical environment to prevent infection.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure confidentiality in compliance with healthcare regulations.
Skills:
The required skills such as Medical Assisting, phlebotomy, and specimen processing are essential for performing clinical tasks accurately and safely, ensuring patient comfort and reliable diagnostic results. Proficiency with medical instruments and sterilization techniques helps maintain a hygienic environment, reducing the risk of infection. Vital signs measurement and blood draws are performed routinely to assist healthcare providers in diagnosing and monitoring patient health. Strong communication skills, coordinating with Nurse Practitioners, facilitate efficient patient flow and effective teamwork. Preferred skills like familiarity with EHR systems and bilingual communication enhance the ability to manage patient information and serve a broader patient demographic effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- At least 1 year experience in a Medical office or Healthcare environment
- Proficiency in taking and recording vital signs accurately.
- Experience with sterilization techniques and medical instrument handling.
- Strong communication skills for patient interaction and administrative duties.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working alongside Nurse Practitioners or in a similar clinical setting.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program
- Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- Certification in phlebotomy and knowledge of specimen processing procedures.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Additional training in patient education and healthcare compliance.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
