Our RootsSharyland Water Supply Corporation was established in May of 1968 for the purpose of providing safe, affordable drinking water to the rural communities in and around Mission, McAllen, and Edinburg. We continue to strive in that endeavor.Sharyland Water Supply Corporation was created by a group of determined, community-minded men in the 1960's. With the help of Farmers Home Administration, a loan was acquired and construction began to build a rural water system. Initially, 700 property owners committed to take water service once construction was complete. Today, more than 50 years later, there are over 19,000 water connections on the system.The Corporation has approximately 100 square miles of Certified Area, 800 miles of water lines, three water plants, four elevated storage tanks and plans for additional water system improvements in the works.The Corporation has over 100 employees and a 7 person Board of Directors, all of whom are dedicated to the job required to ensure that Sharyland Water Supply Corporation continues to be the best it can be.Your ImpactAs a Cashier, you’ll help customers keep their water service in good standing by accurately posting payments and maintaining clean, reliable account records. This role exists to ensure every transaction is handled with care, consistency, and integrity.Key responsibilities include receiving and recording payments (cash, check, money order, and other approved methods), balancing your drawer each day, processing mail/night deposits, supporting meter removal processing, preparing daily office reports, providing Notary services as needed, and completing opening/closing procedures.Required skills and qualifications:- Comfort handling large amounts of cash with strong attention to detail- Solid math/calculator ability and clear written/verbal communication- Customer-service mindset with strong interpersonal skills- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)- Problem-solving, organization, and prioritization skills; technical capacityIf you’re ready to bring accuracy and respectful service to a community-focused utility, apply today.Benefits That Matter- Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage- 401(k)- Life Insurance- Competitive salary - Paid Time OffA Typical ShiftYou start by getting your station ready for the day—logging in, confirming supplies, and completing opening steps before the first customers arrive. Throughout the day, you’ll move between the counter, phone, and back-office tasks, keeping transactions orderly and records up to date. Midday often includes working through mail or night deposits and keeping daily reporting on track. As the afternoon winds down, you’ll double-check totals, finish end-of-day documentation, and complete closing procedures so the next shift begins smoothly. Some days include a schedule change or occasional overtime, with regular hours Monday–Friday (day shift 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; opening 7:45 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; closing 8:45 a.m.–5:45 p.m.).
