What you'll do
Respite Care Providers ensure a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for individuals with disabilities during respite programs (Parents' Night/Day Out, Teen Night Out, Friday Night Out, One-On-One Respite Care, and Community Outings). Providers deliver supportive care, foster developmentally appropriate experiences, and assist participants in social and recreational activities.
Essential Functions:
- Provide a safe, positive, and inclusive environment by attending to participants' individual medical and developmental needs.
- Implement guidance strategies and positively redirect participant behavior as needed.
- Support setup, facilitation, and engagement in age- and skill-appropriate activities that reflect participants' interests.
- Assist Respite Team Leads in the medication administration process (e.g., observing medication being administered and signing required documentation).
- Maintain a clean and organized environment, including setup and cleanup of toys, activity areas, storage spaces, and common areas.
- Engage and guide volunteers in fulfilling their duties effectively.
- Foster positive, respectful communication with participants, families, coworkers, volunteers, and management.
- Protect participant confidentiality at all times.
- Attend and complete continuing education trainings (i.e. mandatory all-staff trainings, Relias trainings, etc.) for professional growth and development.
What you'll receive
- Earn $15 per hour
- A free meal each shift
- Join a great team with a 1:2 staff-to-client ratio
- Flexible scheduling, Ability to work on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings when available, approximately 5 hours per week
Experience and education
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required
- CPR, First Aid, and/or Safety-Care Behavioral Safety Training (this is preferred but not required)
- Experience working with individuals with special needs and/or disabilities a plus
Skill and ability
Respite Care Providers must be able to establish and maintain rapport with participants, families, co-workers, volunteers, and other agency service providers. Must be able to effectively communicate among a diverse community of individuals.
