Job Summary

Chesapeake Yacht Club is seeking energetic, hardworking individuals to join our waterfront operations as a Dock Hand / Maintenance team member. This hands-on role blends frontline member hospitality with daily marina upkeep, vessel handling, and light facility repair. As a key representative of our private, family-oriented club, you will help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment across our docks, grounds, and club amenities.

Key Responsibilities

Waterfront & Marina Operations

  • Safely catch, tie, and secure arriving and departing vessels, adjusting lines for tides and weather conditions.

  • Operate the fuel dock and pump-out stations safely, following environmental guidelines and club safety protocols (training provided).

  • Provide exceptional hospitality, greeting members and guests with a professional, helpful attitude.

Facility Upkeep & Maintenance

  • Perform daily cleaning and preparation of club facilities, including restrooms, restaurant areas, pool surroundings, and docks.

  • Execute minor repairs involving basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, caulking, and general troubleshooting.

  • Maintain grounds, garden beds, and outdoor spaces; ensure the maintenance shop, storage areas, and docks are clean, organized, and hazard-free.

  • Monitor and track inventory levels for cleaning supplies, paper goods, and building materials.

  • Promptly identify maintenance issues, safety hazards, or repair needs and report them to the General Manager.

Event Logistics

  • Assist with the setup, staging, and breakdown of club events, regattas, and private parties (tents, tables, chairs, staging).

  • Collaborate with Food & Beverage and club staff to ensure all event spaces are pristine before and after functions.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of boating, knot-tying, and line handling is preferred, but willing to train candidates with a strong work ethic.

  • Practical hands-on experience with basic hand tools, minor plumbing, or carpentry.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, rain, wind).

  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly.

  • Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and a team-first mindset.

  • Must have flexible availability to work weekends and holidays, as these are peak marina operational hours.

Benefits & Perks

  • Competitive hourly wage + tip potential.

  • Complimentary employee meals from the club kitchen during operational shift hours.

  • Scenic waterfront work environment with opportunities for professional growth in the marina industry.
