Assess business risks and insurance needs — Evaluate a company’s operations, exposures, and industry‑specific risks to determine what types of coverage are required.


Recommend and customize policies — Match clients with appropriate commercial policies (e.g., liability, workers’ comp, property, cyber) and tailor terms to fit their budget and risk profile.


Place coverage and evaluate markets — Compare insurance carriers, negotiate terms, and secure the best available coverage for the client.


Build and maintain client relationships — Network, prospect, and maintain a book of business through ongoing communication and service.


Assist with underwriting — Help clients gather required documents (e.g., loss runs) and prepare submissions for insurance carriers.


Manage renewals proactively — Review policies ahead of renewal, reassess coverage needs, and explore alternative markets when necessary.


Support clients with claims — Provide guidance during the claims process and help adjust coverage as business needs evolve.


Stay current on industry trends — Monitor new insurance products, regulations, and market shifts to better advise clients.

Responsibilities

1. Risk Coverage Assessment

Analyze business operations, exposures, and industry‑specific risks

Identify required lines of coverage (GL, BOP, WC, Commercial Auto, EPLI, Cyber, etc.)

Review loss runs and prior claims history


2. Policy Design Recommendations

Recommend appropriate coverage limits and endorsements

Customize insurance programs based on budget and risk tolerance

Explain policy terms, exclusions, and conditions in plain language


3. Market Placement Carrier Negotiation

Prepare underwriting submissions

Compare quotes across carriers and negotiate pricing/terms

Present proposals with clear coverage comparisons


4. Client Acquisition Relationship Management

Prospect and generate new commercial leads

Conduct discovery calls and in‑person business reviews

Maintain long‑term relationships through consistent follow‑up and service


5. Renewal Management

Review expiring policies for gaps or changes in exposure

Re‑market accounts when necessary

Present renewal options and secure signatures/payments


6. Claims Support

Assist clients with filing claims

Communicate with adjusters and carriers

Provide updates and advocate for the client when issues arise


7. Compliance Documentation

Maintain accurate client files and policy records

Ensure all applications, forms, and disclosures are completed correctly

Stay compliant with state licensing and continuing education requirements


8. Risk Management Guidance

Recommend safety practices and loss‑control strategies

Coordinate carrier risk‑control visits

Help clients reduce claims frequency and severity


9. Administrative Operational Duties

Use CRM/AMS systems to track leads, renewals, and tasks

Prepare certificates of insurance, endorsements, and policy changes


Requirements

1. Licensing

Active Property Casualty (PC) License

Additional licenses (e.g., Life Health, FINRA) are a plus

Must meet all state continuing‑education requirements


2. Education

High school diploma required

Bachelor’s degree preferred (business, finance, marketing, risk management) but not required


3. Experience

Prior experience in insurance, sales, or risk‑related fields preferred

Experience with commercial lines (GL, WC, Property, Auto, EPLI, Cyber) is highly valued

Familiarity with underwriting submissions, loss runs, and carrier guidelines


4. Skills Competencies

Strong communication and client‑advising skills

Ability to analyze business operations and identify exposures

Negotiation skills for working with carriers and clients

Organizational skills for managing renewals, submissions, and service tasks

Proficiency with CRM/AMS systems (e.g., Salesforce, Applied, HawkSoft)

Ability to explain coverage clearly and confidently

Comfortable with outbound prospecting and business development

Strong follow‑through and accountability

Ability to work independently and manage a book of business


6. Technical Requirements

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Ability to prepare proposals, certificates, endorsements, and policy documents

Comfortable using digital tools for quoting, submissions, and client communication


7. Compliance Ethics

Must adhere to all state insurance regulations

Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive client information responsibly
