The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operations of the Nursing Department while ensuring high standards of clinical quality, regulatory compliance, and resident care. As a Director of Nursing (DON), you will lead nursing services, support staff performance, maintain survey readiness, and drive nursing excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all nursing operations as the Director of Nursing (DON)

  • Plan, organize, and evaluate nursing services, programs, and activities in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations

  • Develop, implement, and update nursing policies and procedures

  • Oversee clinical quality, infection control, and survey readiness

  • Provide written and verbal reports to the Administrator regarding nursing department activities

  • Coordinate nursing services with other departments to ensure continuity of care

  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and resident-centered care

  • Maintain confidentiality of resident and employee information in accordance with HIPAA

Staffing and Supervision

  • Determine and assign appropriate staffing levels of RNs, LPNs, and CNAs

  • Develop work assignments and schedules; delegate authority appropriately

  • Conduct routine rounds to monitor performance and compliance with care standards

  • Partner with Human Resources to complete evaluations and support fair disciplinary practices

  • Supervise nursing leadership and support staff development

Qualifications

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) required

  • Nursing leadership experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting preferred

  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting

  • Strong regulatory, operational, and people-management skills

  • Effective communication and leadership abilities
