Position Summary:

Hillwood Energy is seeking a Financial Reporting Manager to join our growing team in Fort Worth, Texas. Reporting to the Controller, this role leads the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and financial reporting across a diverse portfolio of domestic and international energy investments, including consolidation and reporting under both IFRS (international assets) and U.S. GAAP (domestic). Responsibilities span financial statement preparation, management and lender reporting, audit coordination, technical accounting, and internal controls, while building the scalable processes needed to support the company's continued growth.

The ideal candidate pairs strong technical accounting expertise with business acumen and leadership. This individual partners closely with Accounting, Treasury, FP&A, Tax, operations, joint venture partners, auditors, and lenders, and manages and develops a small team of accounting professionals as the function continues to grow.

Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting and Close Leadership

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent completion of accounting and reporting activities.
  • Own the consolidation of multiple domestic and review of financial statements, footnote disclosures, supporting schedules, and management reporting packages in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements, footnote disclosures, supporting schedules, and management reporting packages under IFRS (international) and U.S. GAAP (domestic).
  • Coordinate and review reporting for lenders, joint venture partners, owners, and management, including lender covenant calculations and compliance certificates.
  • Establish close, reconciliation, and review procedures that promote accuracy, accountability, and timeliness.

Technical Accounting, Audit and Internal Controls

  • Research, interpret, and apply IFRS and U.S. GAAP guidance for new transactions, joint ventures, acquisitions, financing arrangements, and evolving standards.
  • Evaluate the accounting and reporting implications of complex activities, including production sharing contracts and other international arrangements, and advise management.
  • Lead audit coordination, including audit schedules, auditor requests, and direct communication with external auditors.
  • Oversee the design, documentation, execution, and continuous improvement of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Identify accounting, reporting, and compliance risks and develop practical solutions that support business objectives.

Business Partnership and Strategic Support

  • Partner with leadership across Accounting, Treasury, FP&A, Tax, Operations, and executive management to support reporting requirements and strategic decision-making.
  • Support the accounting and reporting needs of an expanding portfolio of domestic and international investments, partnerships, and joint ventures.
  • Evaluate business initiatives, transactions, and growth opportunities from an accounting and reporting perspective, and assist with special projects and strategic transactions.

Process, Technology and Team Development

  • Develop and implement scalable accounting processes, reporting frameworks, and control environments that support growth and increasing complexity.
  • Champion technology, automation, AI tools, and data analytics to improve reporting efficiency, quality, and decision support.
  • Participate in accounting system implementations, upgrades, and optimization initiatives.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP and IFRS, financial reporting, and technical accounting, including consolidation of multi-entity, multi-currency structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead close and reporting processes in a complex, multi-entity, international environment.
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to connect accounting outcomes to operational drivers and broader business objectives.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate complex accounting and financial matters clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Strong leadership presence, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and develop a team.
  • High degree of integrity, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Demonstrated fluency with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or similar) to accelerate accounting research, reporting, reconciliations, and analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with financial reporting systems and ERP platforms.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA license required.
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive accounting experience required, including ownership of financial close and reporting.
  • Prior experience supervising or leading accounting staff required.
  • Direct oil and gas accounting experience, or significant public accounting experience serving oil & gas clients, strongly preferred.
  • Experience with partnership and joint venture accounting, lender compliance reporting, multi-entity consolidation, audits, technical accounting, and internal control environments preferred.
